Short version:
I would like to export a XML of the timeline (or preferably Bin) from DR to FCP X (or Premiere), but when I do that - the sound is missing, only picture is transferred. The clips in DR are synced video+audio (ARRI Alexa movs, and WAV audio). How to do that? Is some third party app recommended for such workflow?

Long story:
At our film school I'm trying to encourage a switchover to DR, but at this moment some students insist on editing certain projects in Premiere or FCP X, although almost all projects will be passed to DR for grading at the end of the post. I'm looking into the way for our student who might be involved as assistant editors, to do their part of the job in DR - even for these projects that are to be edited in eg Premiere.
So we know how to do the syncing, how to transcode and how to do the 'housekeeping' within DR (sorting and organizing clips into bins, their naming according to slate etc.) What we are struggling at this moment is the process of transfering this structure to these other apps. We don't want Deliver option - we need to transfer the properly synced and renamed clips, in such a way that after editing DR will be able to relink the XML from FCPX or Premiere back to original footage (video AND audio).

Typically such projects start in the other NLE and come to Resolve from there. Seems strange to start in Resolve, move to Premiere Pro, only to them move back to Resolve.

If one is going to start in Resolve, the best approach is to use only Resolve.

I'm sure you've probably already tried it, but nothing I could find works as you want.

Unlike you, when I exported a timeline (as FCPXML 1.9) audio did import properly. Some of the video was substituted by black clips -- they were clips I'd done Fusion or other work on in my timeline, which I assume you wouldn't do.

I even tried exporting metadata, which exports as a CSV. (Which is actually pretty cool, since you can also import metadata as well.) Unfortunately: a) I couldn't find a way to import this to FCPX, and b) I'm not sure how it handles compound clips or clips with off-camera audio that's been sync'd.

Is the DR re-import really an issue? Couldn't you essentially import FCPX's XML into a totally new and distinct DR project and it would work just as it does now when things originate in FCPX or Premiere? (I.e. what housekeeping that you originally did in DR would not make it to FCPX in such a way that the usual FCPX XML export would not get it back to DR? Seems like you don't need to worry about that. But unfortunately, DR to FCPX is a problem.

And just to clarify, the assistant wouldn't be editing, coloring, doing VFX or anything else in DR. It's just to organize, name, and sync things so the FCPX editor can jump in?

Seems simplest to have the assistant editors do "their part" in Premiere Pro, if that's what the editor is going to use.
