History and Undo doesn't reload with saved project

PostThu Dec 17, 2020 9:15 pm

Is there a way to preserve the history of a saved project that has been closed? Surprised that I wasn't able to use undo after returning to a project. Perhaps I'm missing something?

Thanks.

No. Not in any software (that I've ever seen). Undo lists always start fresh.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Thanks. Guess I'm spoiled. Our audio editor saves 99 steps back.

I think that's a good idea. Maybe add that to the Resolve 17 Suggested Features thread elsewhere.

I think they'd have to carefully think about how this actually interacts. As someone else said, I've never used a piece of software that allows, with one too many instances of Undo, to essentially fall back to a not-finished state of a project I purposefully saved and closed out.

Is this really more of a request for a version management system?

History and undo are NOT local to each project. They refresh every time a project is loaded. Most video editing apps work this way.

Lightworks saves an undo list along with milestones. Projects can be converted back to one of the milestones if needed.

Seems like this should be a feature, given the fact that Resolve projects are basically just databases. I don’t think it should be part of the default Undo stack though. It should be relegated to the “History” list instead, so command history can be reverted even across launch sessions, but the Undo history can start with a fresh slate every time you restart.

Great idea. Have it there for those who want/need it as a part of versioning, but don't let me accidentally Undo to something I did three weeks ago and no longer remember.

Baselight has something like that, you can undo a stupid amount of times to the beginning of time.

Personally, between live save and project backup it is not needed.
