DR Studio USB Dongle Activation?

PostThu Dec 17, 2020 10:28 pm

Does USB Dongle Fail?
Can a Failed dongle be replaced? How? How long?
Will Studio DR without a dongle keep working as a non-Studio version?
Can you load a Studio version project using a non-Studio DR?

Thanks in advance...

Yes, of course. It is a piece of electronics. So it can fail.

As long as you have a proof of purchase. Maybe you could ask support about the other questions.

I don't think so. But maybe you could install the free version along the Studio version. or perhaps an activation key may suit your needs better. With that you never have to worry about hardware failures and can use two installations at the same time on two different computers.

Have fun,
Dieter

Keep in mind that the dongle was designed for Hollywood studios who can't have their editing systems online ever.

So while failure may be possible, I think it may be better to ask is it probable?

Can I load and edit a Studio version project with the non-Studio DR? What happens with the Studio features in the project that are not supported by the non-Studio?

Does the Code Activation version always require to be connected to the internet? Or you can activate once while online, and then can be offline when using DR?

Studio projects should load in the Free version. If you haven't used any of the Studio-only feature, you won't even know the difference.

Activation occurs once when you enter the code. After that, the machine isn't required to have Internet access.

Jim, are you sure of this. How does BMD keep track of the number of machines that have activated after the initial two? How does it kick out the oldest activation when you enter a third one? I would think each time you start Resolve it tries to ping the BMD server to make sure there are valid activations available.
