animations broken at export

PostFri Dec 18, 2020 12:50 am

I've made a travel video and included 3 animations where an airplane or car travel from one spot to another on a map.

I used a paint mask in fusion to create a dotted line, animated with write-on keyframes, published and linked either an airplane or car image to the path. everything looks and works GREAT on my timeline and in fusion. Now when i export it (i've tried mp4, .mov and .avi), the airplane image isnt there, just the dotted line, and the car image is in a completely different spot in the other animations.

im using davinci resolve 17 beta. My machine has intel i7 4790k, GTX 1080 and 32gb RAM. Does anybody have any suggestions?

There's actually a new forum for version 17 that we're supposed to use.

No, but I'd try this: export as DNxHR (or ProRes if it's a Mac) and see if the animation is complete.
Then use Handbrake to compress.
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.

This got me the same result. It's strange, even on the deliver pages timeline; I can see that the animations are in tact, but they break on render regardless of file type.

Mario,

I have a far less powerful computer than yours under Windows 10 x64 (far, far less powerful in every aspect). I had this kind of problem where everything was fine (considering that I don't expect realtime rendering due to the limited resources of my PC) in the Fusion and Edit pages but gave weird results when rendering.

This is what I do know and I don't have problems anymore (using animations with particles, 3D with rather complex lightings and shadows and so on):

- I use a "Saver" node to prerender animations as a bunch of .png files (as I also want to be able to stack multiple tracks with transparency).

- Then, depending on the cases, I use a "Loader" node in the fusion composition or I put the "prerendered" track on top of other tracks.

You will find videos on Youtube that cover this "saver"/"loader" nodes approach to ease complex fusion animations.

The drawbacks are that it use a good amount of disk space and the "saver" process may take a fair amount of time (at least on my very tiny computer, dit I mention that already?).

Hope it can help,
Regards,
Eric

Mario,

What you can also try in the Deliver page is this:

- In the custom Preset, go to the "File" tab and look for a Speed entry (sorry, I don't remember the exact name) which by default is set at "maximum".
- Lower this value to 100 (or even less).

I use this to avoid clicks and pops in my audio when rendering project on my PC which is... (Well, we know now).

Pure speculation: my understanding of this is that, when this parameter is set to "maximum", the rendering in the Deliver page will try to write to the disk "in a Fury" no matter if the video or audio samples are ready or not. At least, it's exactly what it looks like. That won't probably be noticed on BMD's developers machines that are probably powerful enough to handle the most complex cases.

Regards,
Eric

Hey Eric,

Thanks, the loader and saver nodes was good advice. I will definitely use them in the future to avoid problems like the ones I was having.

So I was able to resolve the issue. I decided to just completely redo the animations from scratch. As I'm a beginner, I don't mind putting in the reps. The animations were able to export properly.

I'm having problems with frequent crashes, so I suspect that one (or maybe many) of the crashes was the reason why my animations were glitching.
