Fusion Generators in Resolve 17

I've lost the ability to access and custom generators that I had built and had been using in 16, is this intentional? It was nice to have another dedicated area to save presets or templates.

Additionally, it would be incredible useful to somehow have the functionality to create custom folders in the Effects library for new custom Macros/presets/templates.

If you put the files in the right location they should show up.

On Windows that's:
Code: Select all
C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Support\Fusion\Templates\

On MacOS I believe it's here (but I don't use MacOS to check):
Code: Select all
~/Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve/Fusion/Templates/

my issue with with functionality on the edit page. I could have been clearer in my original post. Thanks for pointing out how to add those folders on the fusion page, but those don't appear for me in the Edit Page Effects Library and several presets I have in the generators folder appear in the fusion page in the Edit Templates section but not in the effects library on the actual edit page

To make something show up in the Effects toolbox on the Edit page, it has to be saved as a macro (not a comp). The process is described in the New Features Guide (Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Documents\DaVinci Resolve.pdf) under Media and Edit Page Improvements > Timeline Improvements > Convert Fusion Compositions to Edit Effects.

Yes I've done that. The process works as intended except for Generators.

has anyone else had success using custom macros saved as generators on the edit page?

Can I check if you're using the latest beta?

ahh, I see. Sorry it took me so long to catch on to that!

I just tried specifically for Generators, and you're right - macros under Generators do not show up in the Effects Library/Toolbox/Generators.

To test, I copied Paper.settings from C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Fusion\Templates\Edit\Generators\ to %APPDATA%\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Support\Fusion\Templates\Edit\Generators\ and renamed it to RootGen.settings (I also renamed the two occurances of 'Paper' within it to 'RootGen' to be safe). I also did the same in a subfolder of Generators. Neither showed up in the Effects Library Generators list.

I am using the Beta 6 on Linux and I also have this issue. Custom generators show up on the Fusion page under Edit Templates -> Generators among the default generators, but both on the Cut page and Edit page, only the default generators show up. I check the file format for both default and custom generators and I can't see any difference.

I am having the same problem, although I think I found the problem. On the Cut page, the Effects menu lists them by group, however, on the edit page, it seems that the menus were hidden so all I saw were transitions. I clicked to open the transitions, and found them:

I've just run into this issue this morning. I assume we are still waiting for a solution?

EDIT: just found a more recent thread with a workaround
