Hi,

I am currently editing some timelapse footage I recorded with gopro. As I recorded it on a night train there are some frames which are almost entirely black and I would like to drop them.

Is there a quick and easy way to do this? I.e. a shortcut to drop the frame at the current cursor location or something?

Not really.

What I'd do is exporting the whole bunch in a high-quality single frame format. Then you can easily spot them in the Explorer or Finder and kill them. Finally, renumber the frames in sequence with one of the free renamer/renumber utilities and import again into Resolve.

Another way would be building a keyboard macro doing the necessary keypresses when parked on the frame, mark in and out, delete, and close gap.

In a timeline..... Mark in, Mark out, Shift-backspace.

No. Only a long and tedious way - manually.

Sure there is. Personally, I'd use Uli's method, but this would also work:

•In your user preferences, editing section->general, set "standard still duration" to 1 frame

•Import a dummy .jpeg into your media pool, and assign some clip color [x] to it that you're not using for anything else. To assign a clip color, right-click the .jpeg in the media pool, and choose one from the "clip color" submenu.

•overwrite the bad frames with the dummy .jpeg when you come across them. F10 will overwrite as long as you've got the track targeting set to the right track.

•When you're done, select all the dummy clips by going to the Timeline menu->Select Clips With Color [x]

•Now with all the dummy clips selected, you can either delete or ripple delete, depending on your needs.

Alternatively, you *might* be able to abuse the scene cut detection feature if you're looking for something more automated. It'd depend largely on the consistency of your footage and how different the black frames are from the neighboring frames. In my experience though, scene cut detection is a very manual process even when you're using it as intended. OTOH, I haven't played with the changes they've added to R17, so maybe it's improved.

You still have to manually locate every bad frame.

I'd do what Peter says but this time, use the Cut page and bring in all the clips as set them as source tape. Scroll through the tape and for the frames you want to drop, doing a Mark in (i), Mark out (o), and Delete.

You can't delete frames from the source tape, but assuming you meant something like "write the source tape to the timeline, then delete frame-by-frame, by pressing ...," you're still using three keystrokes.

If he needs to repeat the sequence of keystrokes hundreds of times, a single-keystroke solution like the one I offered is more efficient, if not exactly elegant or typical.

Have you considered using the cut page?

Change the timeline playback mode to selection follows playhead then shift-delete. It's a timelapse so the IO operation is redundant as they're already single frames.

Thanks for all the replies, I think I'm gonna try out Jasons method.

Indeed manually locating bad frames is ok for me as long as I only have to press one button for removing them.

This is unfortunately not an option as the GoPro does not record the timelapse as single images but rather as mp4 file.

Also exporting single frames would be an option however it would consume a lot of time (for exporting) and disk space while processing.
