Question about importing .m2ts

PostSat Dec 19, 2020 8:41 am

I have some .m2ts HD files which import into Resolve (16 and 17) fine but the playback is glitchy as many have found.
I put the .m2ts into AVS remaker and trimmed out one 30min chunk and "remade" the file in .m2ts but with PCM audio.
Resolve will not even recognise these new files for import!!

So my Q is what has AVS remaker changed other than the duration of the original.
If I transcode the new "short" file thru cliptoolz upto DNxHD 120, the file will import into resolve fine.. and playback better than the .m2ts..!!!!
Ideas what was broken... or...?
cheers CD

The Advanced Video Codec, also known as H.264, is only hardware accelerated in the Studio version of Resolve. So your options are to get the Studio version or transcode in another app before editing.

Nothing was broken. It's the wrong codec.
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.

Try rewrapping the original clip to .mov instead of back to an .m2ts.

Since the data from MediaInfo is the same for both video tracks we can't possibly tell from that. My point was that you might not need to transcode at all if you had the Studio version.

Maybe share a small sample before and after.

Thanks Roger I understand about the Studio version.
Do you know how it would be possible to see what AVS remaker has altered in the file..?

Try using AVS remaker to copy the first ten seconds of the clip. See if this imports into Resolve. If it doesn't, use a hex editor to compare the headers between the original and copied clips. See what AVS remake is adding or leaving out of the headers.

Some video codecs only support certain audio types. It may be the PCM audio is not supported with an m2ts video container format.
