No audio (macOS, Motu 896mk3, Firewire)

PostSat Dec 19, 2020 11:06 am

Hello everyone,

For some reason, there is no audio when trying to use my Motu 896mk3 Firewire interface (not the hybrid version).

Everything is set up correctly, the meters in DaVinci are showing the audio signal, but somehow it's not reaching the interface.

I have it connected through a Thunderbolt to Firewire adapter, and I'm suspecting this to be the problem. However, none of the other software I'm using has any problems.

Tested with both DaVinci Resolve 16.2.7 and 17 beta 5

Hardware:
MacBook Pro mid-2014, 2.8 Ghz i7
macOS 10.15.7
Motu 896mk3 Firewire
Firewire to Thunderbolt adapter

Anyone here who can test and confirm this? :)

Not sure if anybody is reading this, but I just installed the 17.0 release, and I still get no sound through my firewire interface.

What is the configuration in Resolve's Preferences > Video and Audio I/O?

Is this both an input and monitoring issue?

I too am getting no sound after the update to 17.0
on Mac OS 10.14.6 using an Aggregate Device with an Onyx and a Firewire adapter. This works with Final Cut and my audio software.

Do you have your system audio set to the MOTU interface? Have you tried installing the latest MOTU driver?

It works with my Metric Halo interface, so it's not FireWire itself that's the issue.

It turns out that my problem was some files I had with audio not being imported. These were generated in Blender, it could well be that I didn't generate the files correctly in Blender. Other files I generated in Blender came through with the audio.
Obviously User Error.

Hi, sorry I forgot about this post :)

Under "Speaker setup", I tried both "Use system settings" and "Manual" with the correct settings in the Speaker configuration drop-down menu, none works.

When I set it to "Use system settings" and then switch from within macOS to the built-in audio, I get sound. I even get sound through my HDMI monitor, but as soon as I switch to MOTU, there is no sound.

I don't get any issues with other software.

Yes, I did all that. It seems to be a specific DaVinci Resolve issue with the audio interface, as it works with all other software.
