How do I bring 6K footage into a 4K timeline for pan and sca

Greetings all,

I recently started shooting with the new BMPCC 6K camera and love it. I have one question, however, and that is… Is there a way to set up a timeline in Resolve (v17) where I can import my 6K footage at 100% its size and then move it around and reframe it on the 4K timeline. This seems really simple to me but I can't figure out how to do it.

Any and all help greatly appreciated!

Rip

Just look to the timeline’s inspector panel and make sure you actually have a 4K timeline. Then with the media selected, choose Crop in the Retime and Scaling section of the Inspector. This well leave the 6k as 6k, cropped in a 4K window, for you to move and scale to taste. The default is Fit, I believe, which will scale your 6k down to fit the width to 4K (non destructively)

Assuming you've set scaling to "scale entire image to fit", put the footage on a 4K timeline and move it around as needed with zoom and position controls in the Inspector, or the pan, tilt and zoom controls on the Color page.

You'll be working from the base 6K resolution, despite the 4K timeline.

You can also change the image scaling preference to "center crop with no resizing" and move it around on the 4K timeline as desired, with the same controls.
