NVidia and CUDA issue question

PostSun Dec 20, 2020 5:57 am

I have an HP Zbook 15 G2. When I start Davinci Resolve, it tells me that it was unable to initialize CUDA and is currently running in OpenCL mode. This laptop was originally setup for CAD work and should have more than enough umph to handle this. The laptop is running Windows 10 Pro, has 32 Gigs of ram. According to the NVIDIA system information screen it has CUDA on it, with the following: NVCUDA.DLL - File Version 25.21.14.2678, NVIDIA CUDA 10.1.353 driver.

In the device manager, it shows both the NVIDIA Quadro k2100M and Intel HD Graphics 4600. In the Davnici preference section it shows video card 1 NVIDIA Quadro K2100M - OpenCL.

I have downloaded the latest CUDA items and have installed them and its still giving me this issue. Please help. Thanks in advance.

That NVIDIA GPU is a CUDA 3.0 capable and in the the recent NVIDIA update GPUs must be 3.5 compute capable, so the card can only be used with an older version of Resolve or in OpenCL mode.

Ah,ok. That makes sense. Is there a way to download an older copy of Davinci Resolve and what would be the last version that would work. Like I said, I do most of my work on a Dell desktop workstation, but I've recently been doing some editing out in the field and using this HP laptop that I talked about in here.

Thanks in advanace.

Just scroll down on the support page. 15.3.1 should work.
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.

So I have one more question then. If I have already edited a video using the current version of Resolve 16 and reinstalled using the older version of Resolve, will I be able to load the project into it and render it without having to do it all again?

I recall a 16.2.7 project can be opened on previous versions back to 16.1 but not 16.0 or v15

Hi Peter Chamberlain, thank you for your reply. I am concerned with this issue. Do you have a solution to convert a project from 16 to 15 ? The aim is to avoid redoing work done already.

Many thanks for your help.

Ok, thank you so much. I have been using the newest version 16 on this laptop and I had already rendered 2 videos with no issues, but I had one that I was working on and it kept getting stuck at about 23 to 28% of the job. Which I was thinking about changing versions to use CUDA, not sure if it would have made any difference or not, but left the laptop off for two day and then turned it on and tried one more time and it rendered just fine. Hoping to have my office space cleaned back up soon so I can use my desktop again, which had multiple monitors and such, for most of my work and not have to use the laptop.
