Hi Lisa,
To create a title at the front of your clip in Windows
- Create new Project
- Click on 'Media' at bottom of screen
- <Ctrl>-I and browse your file system for your clip eg test.MOV
- if it complains about the frame rate, go with it. ( It's not a well-thought out dialog. )
- Highlight test.mov if necessary in the list of media clips
- R-click 'Create new timeline using selected clips'
- Select new timeline, R-click 'Open in Timeline'
You are automatically switched to the Edit Page (which is third choice at the bottom of the screen)
The big red Playback cursor is positioned at the start of the Timeline
If it isn't already open, up on top left click 'Effects Library'
Now on the bottom left you should see a drop-down list entitled 'Toolbox'
You might even automatically have 'Titles' selected
As a plain man, I merely select-and-drag 'Text' which has 'Basic Title' image next to it, up and over to the blank space just to the right of the viewer where the first frame (or still) of your timeline is displayed
As you hover, Resolve makes visible under your cursor (you haven't dropped your title yet) with these choices:-
Insert
Overwrite
Replace
Fit to Fill
Place on Top
and so on
hover over 'Insert' and let go the mouse button to drop the title into the timeline where the playback head is ie right at the start
Hit <ctrl>+ a few times until the blank title you inserted expands to be visible
Double-click this title until its border turns red
This might require a fine touch if you didn't click <ctrl>+ enough times
In the Inspector to top right of screen you will see a tabbed input area for working with your title
Video' tab will be highlit
select and overwrite the default text, which might be 'Basic Title'
Underneath the text input box, which is pretty simple-minded, it's not Word for Windows, are controls for font size and colour and so on
You're away, enjoy!
