17 beta vs 17.1 beta?

Hi folks,

Sorry for what's probably an obvious question (17.1 == M1 support?) but I can't find an answer. Is macOS M1 support the only difference between the 17 beta and 17.1 beta? I'm currently using 17.1b build 10 on my 2017 iMac, suggesting that 17.1 is not for M1 Macs only.

Are the two versions functionally identical, minus specific features to support the M1 architecture?

Which version should I/we use? Especially given I don't have an M1 Mac.

Yes, 17 = Intel, 17.1 = M1.

That's the only difference. Download for the architecture you have.

I've asked this question before & has come up a number of times in other threads here. Here's my take:

17.1 & 17 both run fine (without other qualifiers) on my Intel Mac Pro. My primary question related to the fact that 17.1 is the only of the two that is identified as 'supporting' macOS Big Sur. M1 is a separate issue & sure, for those who happen to own on of the early M1 Macs, 17.1 is the only the way to go.

The main thing that led me to now running only 17 is that - irrespective of universal support - 17.1 will not run some of the OFX plugins. In my case, FilmConvert Pro Nitrate will not function on 17.1 & the Rubber Monkey website notes this.

So, now have been running the various betas of 17 (now b6) on Intel mac pro & Big Sur & all seems to be more than fine, including OFX plug-in support - and this is despite the fact that 17 does not seem to be officially supported on Big Sur, but perhaps this is just an omission in error.

Thanks for asking a question that has been on my mind as well. I just went from 17.1 to 17 on this version. I am also running Big Sur without issue so far. I have a MacPro with maxed GPU’s and 32GB of RAM. Resolve 17 has been a bit sluggish on my machine versus 16. Forget about Magic Mask. Painfully slow. But there is still a lot to like about the new version. Time to upgrade my machine when the new M1 Desktops are announced.
