Screen freezing/blacking out when editing

First time on a forum, so if any more information is needed, please ask and I will happily provide!

During my first download of Davinci Resolve (16, I cannot remember the specific version), there were no problems, even with heavy editing and scrubbing.

After a problem in which I could not get Davinci Resolve to start, I deleted it and clean installed the version which I have now (16.2.8.005) and ran it as administrator, causing Windows to run the compatibility check which solved the problem. I assume Resolve now runs under Windows 8 because of the compatibility thing...

Resolve is now able to open and I am able to access my projects. However, with light editing, the preview becomes a black screen, and even if the playhead is on a clip, the video is still black. I am still able to drag the playhead along the timeline, but the preview remains black and I cannot play it. Pressing spacebar or clicking play in the viewer does not do anything, and the playhead remains where I left it.

This problem occurs when I "lightly" edit, like add photos to the timeline or cut and transform clips. It usually happens a few minutes after startup, to which I try to restart Resolve. Opening Resolve solves the problem and I can see the preview and edit for a few minutes until the preview blacks out and I can't play the video again.

Is there any way to solve this problem? It's strange because when I installed Davinci Resolve for the first time a couple months ago, editing was squeaky clean and no problems arose. But now...

Thank you for your help!

Bad assumption. Update to Win 10.

Install and use Resolve from an Admin account.

Yes. I only mentioned windows 8 because it was mentioned when compatibility mode was used to fix my previous issue of resolve not opening.
