DaVinci Resolve 16 crashes "Looking For Control Surface"

PostWed Dec 23, 2020 12:59 pm

Hi,
Looked at all the issues that others have had with this issue, but there does not seem to be a resolution or solution for this issue.
Purchased BMPCC 6K got DaVinci Resolve 16 with the camera, installed successful (no issues with that) but when I run the software it does not load get screen splash, Looking For Control Surface.
There was nothing in the installation process to install a control surface, is this another product one has to purchase to use Resolve V16?
I have a .spx file and two log files, one made prior to the crash and one after.
Cannot see how to attach to this post.
I only need resolve to save the blackmagic raw files so I can use them in Final Cut Pro.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

Did the Dropbox link work?
Looking to do some filming using raw, but do not want to waste my time if I cannot get Resolve to work.
I know it’s free but would be great to get this issue sorted.

Oh well, looks as if this issue is to complicated for this forum, will have to try and see if I can find a solution elsewhere.
I will continue with pro res for now.

Good Morning,
I am trying to revisit this issue I'm having with Resolve not working.
I have exported the log files, before the crash and after the crash plus the Mac System info file, these can be found here:
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... sp=sharing

I have a few clients who would like Blackmagic Raw files, but I would like to be able to check the files out before sending them off, so need to be able to open Davinci Resolve to see them.

Any help pointers, solutions would be very much appreciated.
Happy New Year BTW

I'm having this issue as well. Brand new iMac running 11.1, 32gb memory, AMD Radeon Pro 5500 XT8gb. Had Resolve installed on my Macbook Pro with no issues. Used Migration assistant to bring data over to the iMac & then deleted the version on Resolve it transferred. After discovering this issue, I also deleted that & searched for any "Resolve" files still remaining in the system & deleted.
Re-installed my new version I received from purchasing a second Pocket Cinema 4k & I'm now nearing 20 minutes waiting for "Looking for control surfaces" to clear.

Help

Hi, I didn’t get any replies so I created a new post, I then got the following reply:

“You are using a very old version of Resolve. It's not compatible with Big Sur.

Please download and install the current Resolve 16.2.8 release version from here:

https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/suppor ... and-fusion

In the Latest Downloads column on the left, scroll down to Nov 25 2020 for the 16.2.8 versions. Make sure you download the Studio version, if you have a Studio activation key or dongle. If you have neither of those, download the free version, which is the one without Studio in the name.

If you are using new BRAW 12K files, you'll need to use the 16.3b3 version of Resolve.”

If you are running Big Sur then download the latest update, it worked for me.
Hope this helps.
Richard
