DR 17 Beta Build 18 - Cannot Decode Error

PostThu Dec 24, 2020 2:11 am

I ran into a new problem today with DR 17 Build 18. While rendering a project it stopped half way through and said it could not decode one of the files. I verified the file was still there, still accessible, still playable in VLC. Without changing anything I then restarted the render job and it worked fine. It has never done this in any previous version and nothing on my system has changed. Below are the file's attributes.

Uncheck Preferences>User>UI Settings>Stop renders when a frame or clip cannot be processed.

You would think turning that off would corrupt the output, allowing red Media Offline frames to creep through, but the feature seems to throw up false errors more than catch real ones.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Thanks Jim, I will try that. I still think there is a bug in DR 17 Beta....never had so many offline media issues before. I saw it a few times in 16 showing media offline but it never stopped a render (even with the checkbox checked), so I guess we'll see.

I did see quite a few folks reporting Media Offline for media that wasn't offline in version 16. Seemed to happen much more frequently with H.264/5 media than any other.

One of the reasons I refuse to shoot in a delivery format. ;)

This has happened to me at least a dozen times today. All I can do is restart Davinci.

The gpu (asic chip) decoder only does H.264/5 decode (in studio) so maybe it's inability to access gpu decode fault.

this beta 6 is the most unstable crashing beta I"ve tried. very disappointed that stability is getting worse instead of better. Prior to this release I haven't had a beta crash, although i've had other problems. I should add I"m using Fusion more with this release, so maybe it's not actually getting worse
