I downloaded 17 and it is asking me for an activation key. I assume i need to pay $299 (or whatever the purchase price is); how do I do this, where's the link to purchase?

Unless you are sure you want to spend the $300 to run DaVinci Resolve Studio, which is the full featured version and adds some effects, exports larger frame sizes, noise reduction, etc... You might want to cut your teeth on the free version which is simply called "DaVinci Resolve" (without the "Studio").

If you want to jump straight in with both feet, there are online resellers like B&H and Markertek that can sell you a license for the full featured DaVinci Resolve Studio.
You can also choose not to run the 17 beta and just download the earlier v16 stable release from the blackmagic support site as the license will work with earlier versions as well.

I wanted to try Resolve 17 beta on my new MacMini M1 but even though I didn't select the paid for Studio version I still hit the activation key problem,
Is the free version hidden somewhere ?
