My videos become blurry in DaVinci

PostFri Dec 25, 2020 5:08 pm

Hi,
I just started using DaVinci Resolve 16 about 3 months ago. I uploaded couple of videos to YouTube using this editing software. It was looking fine to me until a couple of days ago some of my friends said that the stuff I uploaded to YouTube didn't look great even at 1080p. I thought it was a pixelation problem and it had something to do with the codecs YouTube was letting me use. avc1 to vp9. Well it turns out that was not the issue. Because even when I had the vp9 codec, the videos still looked the same. Then I thought it must be something that I'm doing wrong in the render part of things. Well no. That wasn't it either. Not the frame rate, not the bitrate.. none of those. Then I recorded a new footage (I use the high quality setting on my SONYpj410 handycam) and checked it on my pc. It looked fine on the VLC video player. Then I uploaded the footage to DaVinci Resolve (that I just downloaded the new version of). And the first thing I noticed before even doing any editing on this footage was the blurriness on it that was not there in the first place. So it wasn't any other issue that would cause the footage to be that bad, it was just DaVinci resolve that was doing the harm the whole time. This is my first time asking a question in this forum so I don't know if I can but I will try to add the 2 pictures of the situation so someone can understand it better.
thank you. have beautiful day.

That looks like an interlace problem. Can you switch your camera to progressive?
If not, try de-interlacing in beta 17 with the Neural function.
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.

You need to order the Studio version from an authorized reseller, listed on the web site.

It's either an interlace problem, or vibration in the car affecting the camera. Low frequency vibration can upset some camera optical stabilization systems. I've seen this a few times when shooting trains close up.

update.

it turns out to be the interlace problem. I downloaded the beta17 and it did not do the same harm to the footage. it's got something to do with the davinci 16 I believe. but beta is for a limited time. idk what I'm gonna do once it goes away. coz I don't have the money to buy the studio version unfortunately. (thx to everyone that's trying to help)

The best deinterlacer is free, called QTGMC. But you just exchange time and learning invested against the money for Studio.

If it works in the free beta it should work in the free release version when it's out. Unless they allowed deinterlacing in the free beta by mistake.

If you share a short clip for download we can take a look.

here's the link of the video I had to make unlisted coz it looked bad even at 1080p and in some devices the interlace problem really showed itself,
this one was recorded at 1080p, edited & rendered in DaVinci 16 at 1080p and has the avc codec:

and here's the one where I tested the beta17, (btw I did not touch any deinterlace option or anything)
this one was also recorded at 1080p, but edited & rendered in beta17 at 2K and has the vp9 codec:
