Cut Page sorting possible bug

PostFri Dec 25, 2020 11:00 pm

Hi there,

When I sort my source material by "Date Time" in the dropdown menu, my footages gets sorted by timecode. I know this because when I switch to sorting by "Timecode" the order of the footage (shot over multiple days with multiple different timecodes) doesn't change.
I would expect the sort by "Date Time" on the Cut page to be similar to sorting by "Date Created" on the Edit page. As an amateur I don't do much with TC, I just sync the clock of my camera's and be done with it, and that's works fine on the Edit page, I would like to be able to sort my footage the same way on the Cut page.

Could this be a bug? Anyone else experience this?

Ps: props for DR17 and I'm very pleased with the new Speed Editor, that's a great invention right there, great job!

Yes, this is a known problem.
Hope this will be solved in next betas....

Does anyone have a workaround for this? This is still happening in Resolve Studio 17 Beta 9. When I sort by Date Modified, it seems to be sorted by timecode instead. Or at the very least, it's NOT sorted by Date Modified which is very obvious looking at the column.

Unfortunately, the bug is still present in the 17 and 17.1 non-beta release. Are the developers aware of this bug, or is it intended maybe as a feature?

My first thought is that proper Metadata for the feature isn't present in those clips.

Hi Jim, what metadata would be missing? I'm shooting on a Sony A7 III and a Sony ZV-1: not the most pro-level camera's but they record TC nonetheless

I don't know what that option is using as sort criteria. It's a good question for one of the engineers, though.

A lot of the other sort options are broke too, including Date Modified, which is not part of the metadata but rather the file system. It works fine in the Edit page so whatever is needed is there since the same application can find it in another context.

I'm happy to read this as I was struggling for half an hour now trying to figure out how come "Source Tape" view doesn't make sense

Sorting clearly doesn't work and this makes "Source Tape" useless as everything is all over the place.

Here's my project: https://www.icloud.com/iclouddrive/09XL ... g#Stegeren

If you look for instance at the date March 22nd, the files C0732 is showed before C1032, even though C0732 is captured at 19:52 and C1032 at 9:13. I would expect C1032 to be placed on the tape before C0732, so that it sorts first on date created and then on time created.

Thanks for taking a look at this!

Sorry, just figured it out, the link should be working now: https://www.icloud.com/iclouddrive/09XL ... g#Stegeren

I thought I would have more time before the Aussies would wake up though!

17.1.1 Build 9

Sorting still doesn't work. Attempting to sort according to "Date Time" and it's not even close.

According to page 34 of the DVR 17 New Features manual, sorting by "Date Time" groups clips by date and orders them by Timecode. So the program is behaving in accordance with the manual.

There's clearly a mismatch of expectations and design here. Ideally you'd be able to group by one field and then sort within each group by clicking on a column heading. Failing that, if the current behaviour is to be kept, then it seems like the "Sort" button ought to be named "Group by" and the "Date Time" option relabeled as just "Date".

Not sure why but mine has worked as expected in the CUT page. I think I mentioned on another post. I have been doing family videos of the past few years from my cameras and the families. Range is AX53, AX100, iPhone's, GoPro, DJI pocket. Seems to sort as expected by date and time created. In my case file names do not go in order because they are from different cameras but the actual date and time appears to be correct. I have done three years now and all work that way.

A lot of cameras that don't have "real" timecode support just put the current date and time into the timecode field. If your clips are like that and the cut page is actually sorting by timecode then you wouldn't see the difference.

Here is my project with this issue:

Here is a screenshot clearly showing the problem. The column shows the right value but it's not sorting properly:
