2 cameras on 24Fps 1 on 23.976 how to match audio timecode?

PostSat Dec 26, 2020 6:08 pm

Hey guys I need help! I am in the process of shooting and editing a podcast/documentary. I had a 3 camera set up (4.6k, 6k, 4K) all connected with timecode via MixPre3ii.

One of the cameras (the 4K) was on 23.976 while everything else was on 24FPS(including the mixpre3ii). The audio is out of sync and I can’t find anything online that could point me in the direction to fix it!

I am on a multicam timeline in resolve and everything else is smooth other than the one camera. It’s driving me crazy and I can’t reshoot it, how can I fix this?

(Summary)I have two camera shooting in 24FPS in 1 shooting 23.976 FPS all being fed a 24Fps timecode, what can I do to the camera to have the video line up with the others?

In my experience, this won't come out right. Special care should be taken to ensure the same time base for all sources.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

With the proviso that I have zero multicam experience, and I'm responding only because no one else has, here's what I would try:

Create a new project, set the Conform option to "None" for mis-matched frame rates, set timeline to 24fps and put the 23.976 clip and the 24fps audio on the same timeline.

In sync, or not? If it is, export the video at 24fps and that's your new master.

If that doesn't work, you could play with video playback timings to try to game the .1% difference. You should be able to achieve sync, one way or another. But whether, in either case above, the TC would match is another question. Give it a try....
