Marking In and Out Points Changing Clips in Timeline

PostMon Dec 28, 2020 1:00 am

This is probably a really stupid question, but an odd behavior I can't pinpoint when it's occurring.

If I have a clip, then mark and in and out point, then drag that marked clip onto my timeline. Later I need another segment from the same clip, I mark and in and out, and drag the next clip onto my timeline - but SOMETIMES it actually changes the FIRST clip's in/out?

I make sure I'm not "active" on the current clip when I do this, but it still seems to happen. Also sometimes it looks I see the last in/out point on a clip, and other times when I click the clip it looks like the last in/out point has been reset.

It's been frustrating, because sometimes later in a project I pull in some clips not realizing I've wrecked clips earlier in the edit.

I'm guessing this is something really stupid and obvious, but can anyone point in my the right direction for this behavior?

I'm on Resolve 17 studio right now, but had the same issue in Resolve 16 too.

Thanks,
Justin

It sounds like you have double-clicked the clip in the timeline, which loads the timeline instance into the source viewer. This will allow the source viewer will act upon the timeline clip. You must be sure to load the original media pool clip either by match frame or loading into the source viewer from the media pool.
