Bug: Fairlight deletes/trims linked video

PostMon Dec 28, 2020 12:59 pm

When manipulating audio in Fairlight that has a linked video, that video will be affected (when Linked Selection is activated). I have not tested every type of manipulation but trim and delete affects the video (and leads to bad surprises ;-)

That is the purpose of Linked Selection.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Only on the Edit page, where it makes sense. In DR 16 Fairlight never touches video (even if linked) for good reason. This is explicitly noted in the audio post tutorial (I think in the manual too). So either this is a bug or an unmentioned (and unfortunate) feature change in DR 17.

Possibly a bug because if you unlink in the Fairlight page it still deletes the video when using Trim or Ripple Delete, but not if you Delete Selected with the backspace key

Interesting, as I don't see that behaviour on my setup.

That is the expected behaviour if the Video Tracks are part of the Link Group.

Are you sure, Reynaud? I tested again: in DR 16 Fairlight leaves video alone whether linked or not. And it makes sense to me. Why would I want to affect the video edit when finalising audio? Having to check the link status vor every J/L cut smoothing or when deleting some unnecessary audio, is quite error prone and cumbersome. And I remember Mary Plummer emphasising that behaviour in her tutorial. Am I really wrong?

Resolve 16 uses Track selection to define an Edit Group on the Fairlight page.

Version 17 now includes the "Link Clips" option which may be toggled via the toolbar's Linked Selection button.

Version 17 therefore provides two options to define an Edit Group (i.e. Track selection or Linked Selection).

Thanks to everyone. It seems I missed this feature change. Not sure wether I like it. I found it very convenient not having to worry about video on the Fairlight page.
