Video recording Nikon Z6, advice wanted

I have had a Nikon Z6 for some time and have recorded video internal (h264) and external (10 bit DNxHR) using Atomos Ninja V. When the Nikon Z6II came out I was hoping for internal 10 bit recording, but no such luck. I can hope for a firmware update to support this and switch to Nikon Z6II, but who knows.

Lately the Nikon Z6 have added support for BRAW recording using BMD Video Assist 12G (5" version would suit me), I am considering switching from NINJA V to Video Assist 12G, but there are some questions. I also have to pay for the upgrade to Nikon, and these money will be lost if I want to switch to Nikon Z6II.
When recording 10 bit from Nikon Z6, the minimum ISO is 800, where as with ProRes Raw I understand you can use it from ISO 100. How this is with BRAW recording I don't know and I am not sure if it is possible to record 10 bit NLOG to Video assist.
The BMD Video assist looks great, but there are some things I don't like. First, you "have to" add a external recorder (e.g. Samsung T5) and find some place on the cage to mount it. Second, the USB connection on the Video assist is so placed that you cant mount the monitor using the middle connection, which probably would affect the balance of the rig (SmallRig cage with handle). Third, the Video Assist 5 does not have mic input, which is useful when you use a gimbal (and mount the mic on the gimbal). Lastly, the switch from Atomos to BMD Video Assist will cost me 400-500$.

So my big question is, should I wait for ProRes Raw support in Davince Resolve or should I switch to BMD Video Assist (with the costs and disadvantages ).

The Video Assist has an SD card slot.

That said, between the Video Assist and the firmware update for the Nikon, you're half way to a Pocket 4K.

To my thinking, recording RAW in-camera is worth the other half of that cost.

I currently have both the Ninja V (for Pro Res) and recently picked up a BM Video Assist to try out BRAW.

I am on the fence and still experimenting. In a perfect world, Resolve would support ProRes Raw *or* Atomos Ninja V would support BRAW, but I am not expecting either of these to happen anytime soon.

Would be great to hear other Z6 users experiences on the differences between N-Log, Pro Res Raw and BRAW

Do you have any experience using ProRes Raw using Aperture priority? (is it possbile)?
Any experience with ProRes Raw or BRAW workflow in different NLEs? I would like to be able to adjust whitebalance and color much the same way as I do in Lightroom.

Thanks for info. Is could be possible that the 800 base ISO for BRAW has something to do with BRAW output is after debayering. Does the BRAW output has the same crop factor as N-Log?

I think I will sit on the fence for some time more. Either until Resolve supports ProRes Raw (or Ninja V BRAW) or BM comes out with "mirrorless friendly" monitor/recorder.
First, such a device should have a better way of connecting/attaching external storage (either USB 3.1/3,2 or SATA). A SD card slot I can do without as high speed cards are so expensive.
Second, it should have a mic input (3,5 mm jack). The SDIinput/output slots I can do without as there are no DSI outout in the Z6 (and most other similar cameras).
For me, the 7" BM Video Assist 12G is too expensive and is more for those who use professional equipment and the 5" version is just a crippled version of the 7".

I have a Nikon z6, and also wanted to upgrade to raw format. But I categorically refuse to pay one more dollar for either companies to support their childish behavior. Why should I pay, in addition to the 300 bucks for Nikon, 900$ Canadian dollars for BM to support the BMraw, or change the editing software and go with the buggy premiere pro. These two crappy companies (BM and Atomos) should stop their years old non-sense childish war and start thinking about their costumers.

To answer to your question yes, its at 800 iso, that's why its recommended to use and nd filter if you're using nlog or braw or proresraw during daytime
