Which IDT for Canon C500 mkii?

PostThu Dec 31, 2020 2:20 am

I've just started learning about ACES and am figuring out different ways to set it up in Resolve. I have a Canon c500mkii and it's not listed as an available IDT, although several of the older Canon cameras are.

I have found and downloaded the offical IDT from Canon's website but it seems we can't add these to Resolve in the same way we might LUT's for example.

So if this is the case, which IDT would work best if I want to transform the mxf files (XFAVC) shot on Cinema Gamut, C Log 2, Neutral Matrix? And is that the best it could get or would the actual IDT I have from Canon be a better interpretation than using a similar Camera's one??

Seems strange Canon has these available but no way to get them into Resolve...

My thinking is that if you want to use Resolve and ACES in post, film the project using a supported camera/color space.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Hi Jim,

The Camera and colour space are supported. Canon provides ctl's for ACES for all its production cameras. Only the C500mkii is not listed as of yet.

So it's DR that is not supporting the camera's native IDT, hence my question here.

ACEs has various IDTs for the original Canon500 (unlikely log format has changed with the hardware upgrade) in v16, and RCM has Canon log2 and Canon log3 options. As I recall, there was no difficulty using RCM for the C500 mkii, but the memory is indistinct.

In Resolve? (I couldn't find any C500 MkII IDT's even in Studio 17.)

I've just downloaded the Beta 17 and I see the new Canon C300mkIII and the C70 but still no C500mkII.

Any idea if it will be added and if not, what would be the closest equivalent? This isn't anything to do with the camera being full frame is it as that is the only major difference I can think of between these newer models from Canon.
