DaVinci_Resolve_17.0b6 still doesn't import Canon XF-HEVC

PostFri Jan 01, 2021 5:17 pm

dear relentlessly vigilant support folks.

...and happy new year!

maybe i've got bad expectations, but i keep downloading DaVinci_Resolve_17.x Beta's hoping that this bug will be cleared up. but maybe DaVinci Resolve 17 was never meant to import HEVC 10-bit, as DaVinci Resolve Studio 17.1 seems to do it quite well. is it officially a premium feature in Studio??

please advise

Studio is required for that footage.

Can you provide a link to where HEVC is a Studio only function? I still use DR16 and am able to edit HEVC videos (takes 1 extra step). I posted a video on YouTube showing how to do this. A few people have commented they can't get it to work with DR17 and if it's a studio only issue, then I'd love to pass on the info... but looking for actual documentation that says it's only studio version.

Video that shows how to use DR16 & HEVC :

Just as a followup, using the Windows 10 Store codec I speak about in the video, I tested it out and it works with Resolve v17. Unfortunately, the free codec was moved behind an OEM Code... I don't know how to get those so if you want to edit HEVC videos in the Free version of Resolve, you gotta pay the $1 to the Windows Store for their HEVC codec.

It's actually unclear in the Supported Codec PDF.

It says it can be decoded in the Free version, but it's also been said by BMD staff here in the forums that 10 bit video requires Studio.

So...I don't know for sure.
