Chroma noise reduction: disaster waiting to happen

A smart feature that's been in Resolve for a while has been the option to de-Bayer RAW files at a resolution/level of quality that makes editing and color grading bearable, while allowing renders to "Force debayer to highest quality". It's very sensible to not force the Rendering person to dig into project settings to change a parameter that is really one thing for edit/color and another thing for delivery.

Then along comes RED and they implement "Chroma noise reduction" in IPP2. Which is really great and works really well. But it has a high-ish performance cost. So I tend to turn it off when doing editing or color grading, but then I have to remember to turn it on for delivery. And then I have to remember to turn it back off when i go back to editing and color grading.

For consistency's sake, there should be an Advanced Settings option to turn this RED-specific parameter on and off. Or there should be a setting for the project and for R3D media clips that asks whether to enable Chroma noise reduction for Edit, Color, and/or Delivery (I would want No for Edit, Yes or No for Color, and Yes for Render). But it makes most sense to me to make this something that Delivery should override, not something that somebody should have to comb through every clip to change as the process goes from assembly to edit to grading to delivery.

There is a separate forum for Feature Requests.

viewforum.php?f=33

Best practice is to search first, to see if someone already asked. If not, post one idea per thread with a very brief description of the idea in the thread's title.
