Using Speed Editor without Studio-Version?

As many people seem to order the new Speed Editor just to get the Studio-Version of Davinci Resolve, my request is the opposite:
Since I only do small private projects and don't need Studio, I would like to buy a 'used' Speed Editor.
My question is: Does the Hardware even work with the free version of Davinci Resolve?
Are there features regarding the Speed Editor only working with Studio a non-professional editor would/could quite likely miss?
