Hello. I am afraid I have made a terribly rookie mistake. I pulled a file into Resolve to get rid of a small piece of the audio that was mistakenly played by a drummer. No big deal. Done quickly. Problem is, when I rendered the file, I did not rename it or change the location since I didn't need the original once I had the new render. I figured it would render and then replace. It did not. It started the render and immediately stopped and failed. All I am left with now is a single frame of the render and no original. Is there any possible way to get my original back? Before you ask... I was not running Time Machine, it was the only copy and I have already tried "recovery" software. I know this is a bleak situation and I appreciate your time and knowledge.

For a lot of reasons, for the past 7-8 years, I've had a drive called simply "Render" drive, and on it is everything I've rendered out. Once rendered, the files get copied over to other delivery drives. We never, ever, ever render anything -- not even a short piece -- back to the original drive. It goes to the Render drive first, then gets copied back to the project with a revised file name.

The possible exception are stills, and I have a file folder just for Still/Graphic images for each project, just in case we need them. Those are divided up by timeline so there's no risk of overwriting files with similar names.

Yeah. I’m usually way better with file management which is why I did not realize I couldn’t do that. Straight Busch League move. I was trying to quickly bang out a product for a client in the middle of doing some outdoor underground plumbing in the rain because f***ing COVID keeps taking all of my gigs I would normally be doing instead of f***ing plumbing. Ugh!!! Anyway, on a positive note, the audio engineer actually captured the audio so I’m good. I still have all of my Raw camera footage so I can edit it back to existence. Having the switcher recording would have been ideal but, a pain in my ass with editing is better than a total loss. I’ll take what I can get in these times. lol
