Source Tape does not follow Sort order

PostTue Jan 05, 2021 8:04 am

Hi

I've noticed this problem over all versions of DVRS up till DVRS 16.2.8. It didn't bother me until now -
but today it matters as I am moving from building a timeline of random scenery to a narrative based one that requires a sequence.

I find that clips are randomly stitched together in the source tape and when I make a quick first-cuts of potentials scenes to include in the timeline with an "Append action" they turn out in random order.

In my latest project I begin today the media pool is sorted by creation date but the Source tape sequence starts with a clip that is 5th or 6th down the sort order. This means I have to examine 50+ clips for creation date visually and ensure they are manually re-ordered which is frankly a PITA!

Anyone else notice this issue? Is there a workaround?

Edit: I just found out there are two independent sorting mechanisms - and the one in the left pane fools you into thinking the clips will be sorted but it is a display only sort.

Maybe it was fixed in version 17 because I'm finding the clips do rearrange themselves as I sort.

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

I just checked on my systems. All are Mac, so maybe this is different in Mac and Win

In one system with DVR Studio, 16.2.7, and another with DVR 16.2.8, in the Media Pool, the sort order icon isn't there. Sorting happens only when I click on column headers. The sort order icon appears only in icon view, not in list view. In the media pool.

In another system with DVR 17.0b6, I do see the sort order icon but its grayed out.

In all three, the sort order icon is available in list view only in the Cut page Media Pool. Not in the Media page Media Pool.

isn't it the case that source tape stitches the clips together according to timecode and date?

sorry, I do not use the cut page
