Amd graphic card for my hackintosh

PostTue Jan 05, 2021 10:42 am

Hi Guys, I am not sure if Hackintosh is allowed in this forum.
I have ordered Speed Editor and waiting for it to arrive.

Previously I was using Final Cut to edit my project and I am thinking to switch to Davinci Resolve.
Since its all in one, included color grading, motion graphic and audio mixing tools, so I can further my online edit without export xml or omf/aaf.

Basically my edit is on 1080p timeline with 4k footage from Sony A7III, will explore Fusion soon to do some motion graphic.

My current setup is
CPU: Intel core i7-6700
RAM: 48GB (2x8GB + 2x16GB 2400MHz)
GPU: MSI GTX 970 4Gb Vram
Storage: Samsung Evo 850 for OS, HDD for storage
OS: MacOS 10.13.6 High Sierra

I've read the system requirement for latest Davinci Resolve to support Speed Editor has to be 10.14 Mojave and above, which require AMD graphic card to upgrade OS.

My current option for graphic cards are RX580, RX5500XT and RX5600XT.

Please advice me which one is more suitable for my work. Thanks

Your Best bet would be the 5600 XT. It's the fastest, and with Resolve GPU is king.

Thanks for the answer.

Is the vram enough to support my needs? Rx5600xt only has 6gb vram, i see some of the post said 8gb vram is recommended for davinci resolve.

Any recommended manufacturer or model for this graphic card? There are a lot manufacturer producing this card and they have different series rx5600xt.

A lot of people prefer the Sapphire Pulse rx5600 XT. The general consensus is that it is the best. Sapphire usually makes the best AMD cards.

Hello,
Sorry, but I doesn't understand the interest of Hackintosh for daVinci Resolve.
I understand it when you want to run FinalCut Pro or Millumin because they are exclusive to macOs, so it make sense. But for DVR, it works fine on Windows or Linux, the only question would be perhaps sound.

Some users are locked into a Mac ecosystem. I must interchange Mac-only files and ProRes masters on a regular basis. I do a lot of conforms from Avid, Premiere, FCPX etc. and I need to fix issues with the original projects when the XML or AAF conforms don't work correctly. I need to have all those applications available and a Windows setup means I can't do FCPX conforms or easily deliver ProRes masters.
Apple Mac Pro computers are VERY expensive, so a Hackintosh works for my needs as it's like having the Mac Pro that Apple never produced!

Many high-end graphics cards are hard to find these days and Bitcoin is going through the roof.
I don't think that's sheer coincidence…

The older RX580 8GB card is working great in my Hackintosh & it's a good cheap option.

Seconded. If you add the same card in an eGPU (or inside a Hackintosh) you can get quite decent performance.
