Using Studio ND for individual clips!

PostThu Jan 07, 2021 4:25 am

I am working on a 2K project which I graded in Resolve Studio.

I am now trying to reduce the noise from all clips used in this project but when I try to add it, Resolve becomes very slow and unresponsive. Rendering takes extremely long time and always fail at some point because of my GPU limitation. That is not to mention is that I get some strange artifacts in the transitions between clips.

So I had an idea to apply the ND individually for each clip in my timeline, render those clips as individual files in intermediate format, then I replace all clips in the timeline with them. By doing this, Resolve performance should be very smooth, rendering the final output will be quick and I will not have that strange artifacts in between the transitions.

However, I could not figure out the best workflow to do that. Any idea?

If you're using temporal noise reduction then those artifacts are to be expected, you should render out individual clips with handles (assuming you have them) so the transitions don't affect the NR, then conform from that and you should be fine.
