Realtek vs. Logitech USB sound card for VO?

PostThu Jan 07, 2021 8:04 am

Hi Everyone,

Just a short question: haven't done much Voice Over stuff so far, and wp;; probably only do it rarely in the future. My MSI mobo is of course equipped with some medium-class Realtek, but would using something like the LOGITECH G Pro headset with a mic and USB card produce better results? TIA

i would suspect that the motherboard mic input is only analogue. avoid it at all costs.

since i no longer have to produce for tv i've found usb audio input to be quite acceptable, especially when used with a good mic.

i have a simple xlr to usb cable, a 48v phantom power supply, and can use any of my xlr mics with excellent results (senn me80, samson omni, sure sm 58). in fact i actually bought a cheap $35 bm800 condenser mic on ebay that sounds really quite remarkable (though it really does need phantom power to bring it to life).

Thanks Leslie - just wanted to know what to expect if I use a mediocre sound card this headset/mike combo come with. The thing is I already do have one, and it works great when used with my laptop whose internal sound circuitry is real crap, for my webinars, work-from-home conferencing and alike. Why I simply don't try it for my voice-over in Davinci - well, I'm far away from my workstation at the moment, but I do remember the last time I tried the solution you're using (a good XLR mic into USB via adapter), for some reason my PC (entire Windows - not Davinci only) didn't see the mic at all...
