Another GPU error

PostFri Jan 08, 2021 4:06 pm

I am using Davinci Resolve ver, 17.0B Build 18 and I am continually getting a crash where a message pop up stating that my GPU memory is full and to reduce correctors or timeline.
I have not applied any correctors, there are 3 1080p videos on the timeline and the longest one is 17 minutes.
I have an AMD Ryzen 5 with 24 GB of RAM and a Radeon RX 580 with 8 MB of RAM. When it crashes, my system shows my GPU memory running around 10% when viewed from the Task Manager. I know this is a Beta release and that problems might arise. If you need anything else, let me know!
If to err is human, I am super human!

I was wondering if the problem with "GPU memory full" is solved in Resolve Studio 17 beta 8 that was launched today? The error pops up frequently in beta 7 what ever I am trying to do in fusion or in the edit page. Sometimes Resolved has crashed thereafter, sometimes not. It was so frustrating that yesterday I rolled back to Resolve Studio 16, that works OK.
I am using the most recent NVIDIA Studio driver 461.40 with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER.

I upgraded my NVIDIA Studio drive to 461.40 this morning and so far, my GTX 1650 Super is no longer returning "GPU Full" errors.

Dear Peter, are you using Studio 17 or 16? My problems started after installing Studio 17 beta 7; I had no problems with 16.

Uulke: Studio 17. Not using the latest "08" update yet. Waiting to see if GPU memory errors recur before updating Studio 17.

Installation of the current "Studio" driver (461.4.0) may have precipitated a disaster on my machine. My GTX 1650 Super no longer provides output on the Display Port output.

The monitor attached to this port now displays nothing.

The "dark" monitor is performing normally, as checked by a cable swap.

Nvidia suggests a complete purge and re-installation of its drivers.

POST is taking about ten times as long to complete.

Any suggestions welcome.

I'm seeing an extraordinarily high number of trouble postings with users with a Ryzen on-board. Even AVID and Premiere guys with Ryzen machines are swarming with complaints.

Windows machines typically have far greater errors than Macs simply because they're infinitely customizable, but seeing so many issues associated with Ryzen-equipped machines is worrisome.

Start your digging directly with AMD and see if you get any clearer help; maybe there are some whitepapers out there that might point to a widespread bug.

I don't think there's much the guys at BMD can do to offer help here; my gut tells me there's a compatibility issue going on with heavy processing loads on a Ryzen.

Jeez, I hope not. A CPU replacement is a lot more intimidating than a graphics card driver reset.

Thanks for your thought, though. :)

I have no problems now already for several days with Resolve 17 Beta 8. The previous problems seemed to be related to one image with very high resolution that I used in a Fusion comp.

I don't think that there are many problems with Ryzen processors, but with AMD video cards. Ryzen with NVIDIA GPU and recent Studio drivers works great.
