Export project to DNxHD ??

PostFri Jan 08, 2021 4:14 pm

I would like to export my project with DNxHD so 1080p.
There is no setting I can use that gives the same result as what I see in my viewer.
Every setting I've tried gives more saturation and more contrast.
I would like to know how I can export my project with DNxHD with the same resolution as my source in the viewer.

Project is mostly record in Prores and Braw timelline 1080p

What you see in the Resolve viewer is not an accurate representation of the saturation and contrast of the program, as it would be seen on a calibrated broadcast monitor.

There are many other variables as well (are you viewing the export on a calibrated monitor? a computer monitor?; or with what player or browser?). But for starters, read the section in the manual on monitoring, and monitor calibration.

I'm looking at the computer monitor.
It doesn't make sense. If I export it to H264 I do have the option to get the same resolution as the source on the viewer this is not the case with DNxHD
Whatever monitor I watch, I don't think it matters I clearly see more contrast and saturation .. I also watched it on TV .. Dark scenes are just black ....

By the way, this isn't the first time I've been exporting and showing projects, I've had projects in cinema theaters and film festivals several times. I never had any problems exporting prores on Imac

Looking at the image on a computer monitor is like looking at the world through Blue Blocker sunglasses. You don't see thing as they really are.

In the real world, you need to take the sunglasses off.

In the video world, you need to take the video off the computer, and get it onto a calibrated display from a 'hardware player'.

There are two ways to do that.

1. https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/decklink

2. Export and play from media player.

So...take off those glasses and report back. ;)
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

100% correct.

Only one exception: in John Carpenter's "They Live" the protagonist sees the world as it really is with the sunglasses on ;-)
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.
