What's the best (most efficient) way to insert a clip...

What is the best (most efficient) way to insert an above clip into the middle of another clip in EDIT without having to blade it and moving everything out the way "manually" first?:

(Presuming that blade cut ^ wasn't already there.)

Well, on Edit page F9 (Insert Clip) will "blade" the timeline, shift everything right for the duration of the selected clip and it at the playhead, while F10 (Replace Clip) will overwrite your timeline with the selected slip, starting from the playhead position.
Just keep in mind that F9 will shift the entire timeline, not just the video track.

No, the maneuver you suggested above is for inserting WHOLE clips. I want an edited or already chopped up clip (from the initial whole clip) to be inserted at that particular point on the playhead in EDIT.

You can have parts of clips in the Media, so the suggested approach can work. If you're chopping in the timeline and want to move something, I'd look at Copy or Cut followed by Paste or Paste Insert.

(In your particular example, with the upper clip starting where you intend for it to start and selected, then CMD-X (Cut), CMD-Shift-V (Paste Insert), and Shift-Drag it into the new gap in the lower clip. Make sure to have all Auto Track selectors enabled and no locked tracks if you intend for the Insert to work properly.)
