SOLVED: Resolve Studio 16 locking up during playback

PostSat Jan 09, 2021 6:07 pm

-------
It was the new nvidia geforce driver (461.09).
I rolled back to 460.89 and all is well.

Been using Resolve Studio for most of a year, doing basically the same thing every week - creating a 1 hour show from about 15 video clips sent to me by the same 5 or 6 people. Once I learned how to do what I needed to do it's performed flawlessly. I upgraded to the latest (I think - 16.2.6.005) as soon as it was available and have had no issues with it in the months since then.

But today it keeps freezing when I initiate playback. I seem to be able to do all the editing I want, but sometime between the 1st and the 5th time I press the space bar to start playback, Resolve freezes and I have to force it to shut down.

I haven't changed anything in my routine with respect to Davinci's settings or what I'm doing. However I did update my RTX 2080 Super to the latest nvidia driver, and IIRC I also installed whatever updates Windows 10 wanted me to update. So it's probably some new interaction with one of those changes.

Looks like I can muddle along and get this week's video done (though it might take t̶w̶i̶c̶e sixteen times as long), but I thought I'd mention it here in case anyone has any insight into what the problem might be.

Cheers.

Edit 1: It just happened again, and I noticed that while pressing the playback button or the space bar doesn't do anything, I can still move the cursor anywhere I want in the timeline.

Edit 2: Now I just made an edit, saved the project, tried to move the cursor, and it froze with an hourglass pointer - in this case I couldn't move the cursor at all; everything is fully frozen.
