Resolve 17b06 won't start - even though it did before...

PostSat Jan 09, 2021 10:48 pm

Opening a new thread as the related topic https://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=111188 seems not to have seen any action since November.

All, Happy New Year and: Please, I need some help:

I can complete the installation process and DaVinci Resolve Studio 17b06 installed fine. I have also been successfully able to use the programme.

However, out of the blue Davinci Resolve Studio would not start any more. Error message: "Application was unable to start correctly (0x000007b). Click OK to close the application."

I have uninstalled all VC++ Redistributables and reinstalled latest from Microsoft, I have re-installed Resolve Studio, all to no avail. Windows 10 even got an upgrade install - no joy.

I'm currently a bit lost, as I can't go back to Resolve 16 due to the project database already upgraded and ongoing projects in DaVinci Resolve 17...

System is i7-9700, 32GB RAM, GTX 1070, Windows 10 latest. Any help greatly appreciated!

I have a zip file containing my sysinfo and logs here: http://www.filedropper.com/logandsysinfo

*EDIT* with further remedial attempts:

- De-Install of 17b6 using Regedit (as described here on the forum by Amazing Eric)
- Removal of all BMD Auxiliary Software, such as BMD Raw Components etc.
- Download 16.2.8, Installs fine, then

- Won't start with same error message Error message: "Application was unable to start correctly (0x000007b). Click OK to close the application.

I'm wrecking my brain on what has changed on my system to create this issue - all other applications seem to be unaffected and I can work normally. Really trying to avoid the pain of a completely fresh installation here... but may have to bite the bullet...

Thank you for googling that for me :)

I have tried a lot of the suggestions in the search results before posting here, a lot seems to be related to Visual C++ or .net.

I’ve been through “the lot”, so far no result yet.

The most recent log is from 12-24. Have you tried running Resolve since then? Assuming yes, I guess it's not getting far enough to generate a log.

Send a screen shot of the Control Panels - Programs and Features page that shows all the Microsoft Visual C++ apps that are installed. Make sure its wide enough to show the size and version columns.

Hi Dwaine, thanks for offering your help.

Yes, I have tried to run Resolve after Dec 24, but it looks like it never got far enough to create new logs in the startup process.

As I de-installed and re-installed virtually the whole Visual C++ App Portfolio without success, I decided to solve this on my own by a clean re-install of Windows 10 with subsequent re-connection of backed up Resolve Databases.

It's all working fine again now, thanks all for the suggestions so far. I have created a system restore point as this is now the working environment and hopefully I can go back to it should the problems re-occur.

Best regards

David

That's always the best way to solve that sort of issue, painful as it is.
