How to pair Speed Editor?

PostSun Jan 10, 2021 12:54 pm

I'm trying to pair the Speed Editor to my Windows PC. I'm using a seperate bluetooth dongle. I've tried three different types of dongle (not just three of one type). I can pair other devices just fine, but the Speed Editor doesn't show up in the list of devices.

I've tried starting Resolve 17 and tapping keys on the Editor, but there is no indication that it's ready to pair.

It works fine using USB. The battery is 98%.

What do I need to do?

For me it installed automatically. I assume you have davinci control panels installed? (it should install automatically when you install davinci, unless you unchecked the check box to install it).

And you are on windows 10? Which version of BT do your dongles use?

Is the Speed Editor unplugged from USB while trying to pair? This is necessary for it to connect via Bluetooth.

The Bluetooth version is probably the problem: 2.0 :-(

Any recommended dongles?

I initially had problems as I had lost the antenna for my motherboard Bluetooth generator so bought a USB dongle. It required me to disable the onboard Intel Bluetooth one and make sure it was the dongle that was the Bluetooth as prime. I plugged in the Speed Editor the first few times to make sure it was fully charged and then found it easy to pair in Windows. It now works every time.

I'm not sure what the speed editor requires, but version 2.0 is very very old, so I think that could be your problem.
I just bought a BT 5.0 dongle off amazon for about $10 and it seems to be working well.

I agree it’s old. Time passes more quickly than one realises. I’ve ordered a new one. Let’s see. Thanks!

I brought this TP-Link USB Bluetooth Adapter for PC 4.0 Bluetooth Dongle Receiver, paired with the Speed Editor it worked.

But the problem is after we have turned on the computer and the Resolve Applications the Speed Editor does not show under Preferences >Control Panel

Can suggest how the Speed Editor can be turned on or we need to get some fix

I can confirm that a newer 4.0 dongle fixed my issue and the controller is working okay.

Im still having the same issues with connectivity.

- DR can see it in the 'COntrol Panerls Setup' and is connected via USB
- Even bluetooth can see it connected and resport the battery status fine

It still does not connect. Why didnt they put a flippin on switch on this thing.

The Speed Editor goes to sleep if you have turned on the computer from the Power off state.

Making sure to disconnect the USB connection and the Speed Editor shows paired under Bluetooth.

When launching the Davinci Resolve application simultaneously tap any keys on the Speed Editor and in few seconds you should see the light glow

This should work and I have tested on my end.

Doesn't work for me and the fact that the BT connection causes such problems in the first place, just makes the whole product look bad.

Re: How to pair Speed Editor?

I reinstalled Windows so am using the same hardware in same configuration as I was prior. Getting the Speed Editor to connect wirelessly is far from straight forward.

I have connected it via USB and see it in the Davinci Control Panel and while plugged in it also works with Resolve. However it won't work once I disconnect the USB. The lights stay on, even if Resolve is not running and the buttons do nothing. It does not show up under Bluetooth devices and I am unable to add it.

How I Fixed It

Here is the order by which I attempted to connect to the device on clean installation.
  1. Install Resolve + Control Panels
  2. Connect Speed Editor via USB
  3. Launch Resolve. Confirm device works.
  4. Unplug device. Lights stay lit and even if Resolve is not running. Speed editor won't connect.
I then attempted the following things to fix it
  • Restart Resolve with it connected via USB then disconnect
  • Restart Resolve with it not connected
  • Attempt to manually add it via Add Device for Bluetooth. Most of the time it never showed up, and when it did it failed to add.
The device was showing up in "Other devices" under control panel as Speed Editor. I then did the following.
  1. Removed the Speed Editor from "Other Devices"
  2. Exited Resolve
  3. Added it Via Bluetooth. It will show up as "DaVinci Keyboard"
Now it connects wirelessly.

i tried to connect it by bluetooh by thousand ways, but I was never successful, it only works with USB.

it appears as connected on bluetooth, but no lights on SE, (tried also the reset combination with Cut+Smooth Cut keys together) it doens't appears on Davinci Control panels and doesn't works, unless I cable it again.

BMD should do something about this.
- MBP 14" M1 Pro 16GB, 1TB, 10 core CPU, 16 core GPU.
- Resolve Studio 18.6.4 @ macOS 13.6.2
- Mini Panel v2.0
- Speed Editor (gathering dust until killer custom keys arrive)
- Synology DS218

The Speed Editor is not reflected in DaVinci Control Panel Setup when connected via Bluetooth - it only reflects via a direct USB connection.

If the Speed Editor is connected in macOS Preferences > Bluetooth it will reflect in Resolve's Preferences > Control Panels.

I hadn't used Resolve in quite some time (sad I know) and I had upgraded to 18.1. The speed editor was not connecting again. I followed my instructions from my post above and was able to get it to work again wirelessly. Not sure why upgrading would have broken it.
