Grading canon log bt.2020 10bit 4k, help.

PostMon Jan 11, 2021 6:30 am

Hello , i am fairly new to Resolve and color grading in general, i recently got my hands on some footage
recorded in 4k , canon log , in bt.2020 color space, is in mp4 h265 an is in 10bits.

My question is in regards the best practices on how should i set my project settings and movie files to start grading the footage in the correct way? (if there is something that i should look into more specifically )

So far i have my clips set to "full data levels", and my project settings timeline color space to rec.2020(scene) .

In the color tab for instance, should i have my grading nodes with hdr mode ON ? (i'm quite unclear on this option ) .
What i am doing is quite basic, edit some footage, each clip is using a transform node (rec 2020, canon log) , and i am adding a node to do the grading per clip. (here is where im not sure if i should use the hdr mode, it seems to affect only when the grading wheels are adjusted, is this option giving a higher degree of control ?)

If you can point me into the right direction would be very much appreciated, i have the feeling that i am somehow missing some important steps in setting this up .
