Bug/effect/dumb user? Timeline black background problem.

I am using Davinci Resolve 17v6 on Linux.
I am trying to do some exercise for school and found myself scratching my head with strange problem.

Objective:
Video starts playing

Bit later I have to add on top of that slideshow-like feature where there is 2x2 photo grid filling the frame. Each slot uses the same photo series, just each next one starts 4 seconds after previous one.

My work process:
* Create new project, 1920x1080 resolution

* Create new timeline and name it "photos"
* Just add 7 photos in a row
* From Inspector / Video adjust zoom so it fills the the frame with no black borders.

* Create new timeline and name it "photos x4"
* Add 4 video tracks, each one is "photos" timeline, each one starting 4 seconds later than previous, so they start at 0, 4, 8 and 12 seconds.
* From Inspector / Video adjust transform settings for all:
Zoom: 0.5
Anchor point X: +/- 960
Anchor point Y: +/- 540
* Result is nice 2x2 grid and everything works like it should

* Create new timeline "Main video"
* Add any video as background video
* Add 2nd video track "photos x4" which starts, lets say 5 seconds after background video starts.

The problem:
When the 1st photo track starts, background is black and background video is not visible.

When 2nd photo track also starts paying then background is transparent and video becomes visible.

Problem also occurs at the end:
When only the last photo track remains playing, then again background is black and not transparent.

In conclusion:
When using the process described above it seems when only one video track is active in "photos x4" timeline, background is black. When more than one is active, background is transparent.

Is it supposed to behave like this?
Am I doing something wrong?
Is there a workaround for this? Or option/setting I have missed?

Thanks in advance.
