Conforming audio clips with slightly different names

PostMon Jan 11, 2021 8:09 pm

Lots of posts on conforming in the forum but I couldn't find an answer all day long.

My offline proxies (audio files) have somehow been created with an 8 digit prefix. Didn't notice it on time.

Example:
Proxy file: A1-0511_000413_0206S3.MP4
Original file: 000413_0206S3.WAV

Editing is done and I cannot conform back to the original WAVs.

1. I cannot set Reel Names via the "Clip Atributes" menu in the Media Page: The "Set Reel Name Using..." option is greyed out for both .WAV and .MP4 audio files.
2. The clips have no source timecode, they all start with 00:00:00:00
3. Clip durations overlapp: We recorded a normal and a -5DB version of each audio clip.
4. For a reason too complicated to explain here, I cannot batch rename the original WAVs to match the prefix of the proxies.
5. Using the */*_00%R.* Patern, a unique Reel Name common to proxies and originals should be generated (0413_0206S3 in my example). Nevertheless, when I use this Patern in the "Conform from Bins/ Media Storage => Reel Name Using => Patern textbox, all my proxies are conformed to the same .WAV.

I am probably misunderstanding the way "Conform from Bins/ Media Storage" Patern textbox works but...

Is there a way to conform my clips besides manually replacing them one by one?

Thank you very much.

As a workaround, why not use a simple renaming utility? Such tools can do a batch.
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.

I cannot rename the proxies because they will become unlinked.

As not all the prefixes of the proxies are secuencial/ the same, I cannot rename the originals either.

OK I solved it.

I made a copy of the proxies and I batch renamed them removing the prefix. To do that I used the free TGRMN software Bulk Rename Utility (for Windows).

Then I was able to conform my project to the new renamed proxies using "Timecode" and "Duration" as criteria in the "Conform from Bins/ Media Storage" menu of the edit page.

Finally I re-conformed to the original WAVs using "Loose filename match" as criteria.
