Resolve 17 beta 6 Micro Panel

PostWed Jan 13, 2021 7:46 am

Hi there,
I just recently received my Micro Panel and I'm quite happy with it. If there wasn't this nasty glitch. Every once in a while, especially after something like a coffee break or switching applications, the connection is lost, forcing me to restart the panel by pulling the (usb) plug. Reconnecting it works alway (until next break). It appears, as if the panel tries to get into sleep-mode without waking up again, although all the lights of the buttons stay on continuously.

Specs:
iMac 27" with core i7, 32GB Ram (yes, it is old..)
OS Catalina 10.15.7
Resolve 17 beta 6
Micro Panel Version 1.3.2, Build cpu:9f7b10ac

Yes, several additional things: StreamDeck, Uaudio Apollo Twin, UPS, ..

I'm aware that this is a beta, but if no one reports problems, nothing can be fixed.

Regards,
Stephan

I'd try again with only the panel connected. And then, do you le the Mac go to sleep? Don't.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

Thank you for your reply.
I already did what you recommended took all the other items off, tried a different usb-port, too (which appeared to be better somehow). In addition "Control Panel Setup" always finds the panel instantly. Strange is, sometimes I only switch to the finder (to find some files) and back and it is off again. Problem is, this behavior is something I can not reproduce everytime (may depend on the time I need in the finder??). As long as I stay in Resolve and do what I have to do, it works like a charm for hours and hours.

I just received an email by BM. Wow - this was a quick response!

He told me to force update the firmware, which I did just a few minutes ago. Fingers crossed that this is the way to go. As the machine is right now rendering (which takes time), I will know within a couple of hours.

Kind regards,
Stephan

Ok, forcing a firmware update did the trick. The panel is up and running the complete day without any failures.

I'm happy again :D

Force update is in fact quite simple:

- disconnect the panel and wait 10sec (pull the plug)
- press and hold "stop" button (bottom right button) while reconnecting (plug in)
- stop button starts blinking
- start "Davinci Control Panels Setup" - needs to be the latest version
- in my case I had to klick this circular button below the panel info, sometimes not needed.
- window pops up telling I need to update firmware asking if I want go on
- klick "ok", wait a little bit (took merely 3-4sec)
- panel reboots automatically
- done.

After quite a lot of testing different versions of Resolve and reading the panel.log I'm quite sure the problem is not related to any cable or hub. Although changing cables and hubs helped, the problem persists, only less often.

As a last resort I tried and downgraded the firmware of the panel from 1.3.2 to 1.2.1 (yes, this is possible, but not straight forward) and the connection appears to be stable now. Up to now the panel.log states a connection almost instantly and every time on the first try. We will see.

I would be very interested in knowing the differences between those firmware versions. Is there any kind of changelog available?

Kind regards,
Stephan

After testing all different kinds of situations I hooked the panel up on a brand new MacBook Pro M1 with the same result:

As long as no hibernation (sleep mode) takes place, everything seems to work all day without any glitches. One or two times hibernation of the computer and the connection gets lost. Sometimes hitting random buttons helps getting the connection established, sometimes only pulling the plug helps.

As long as you know it is kind of ok, but annoying.

I had the very same issues with my Micro and Mini panels – on Mini panel on Ethernet connection too, and there is no difference between connection type – direct or through router!

It looks like panel goes to sleep while I'm working with a power windows with mouse (for example) or going to coffee break, and it don't want to wake up after my touch.
MacOS BigSur 11.4
The same issues was on Mohave.

17.1.1 works with panels more stable than 17.2.1
