Can anyone tell me why a set of camera files read perfectly in v16 and are 'Offline' in V17

I had no problem incorporating them using Resolve v16

With my new Studio v17 beta the clips are showing as Media Offline.

What setting am I failing to use, please?

I started this thread on the v16 forum and it was not until Jim Simon spotted it that I was reminded it should have been posted here with V17 beta. As it contains pictures I putting this link.

One possibility is that you've mistakenly installed the Free version of 17.

What GPU model and driver?

What format media?

Tony, this is a known bug in DR17 where perfectly good files show up as offline. It is a pesky, annoying bug but ultimately not super serious. Highlight a clip on your timeline that is on your timeline as offline. Select find media in pool and then go to that clip and select go to location of file.

You don't have to do much more than that. You don't have to replace the file or anything like that. I you will then bring the file into your source monitor and scrub it, the offline will slowly begin healing itself until the file is restored.

Again a pain but if you just have a few that are offline the method I described will help. I haven't had to replace any files ever for this particular bug.

The files are .mp4 from my Insta360.

I tried your suggestion but I could not get it to work.

In the end what does work is to remove the tick from 'hardware acceleration'

Not sure what I am sacrificing but I now have a system that can see the Insta360 files.

I am running the same version as the op and I can say that I get this media offline issue about once every couple of days. Randomly.

It will be harder on your CPU if you disable hardware accelerated decoding of H.264/H.265 clips. You might not get real-time playback. But there's no difference in quality.

I hear ya Jim but my suspicion is that the problem might be related to gpu issues in DR. I noticed yesterday I immediately started having the media offline red thumbnail issue popup right after I started getting gpu full errors. This is the first time that I saw that specific connection or link but it got me to wondering.

Closing down the program and reopening the same timeline and everything was immediately fine.

Ahh, yes. When I start getting GPU Full errors, a restart of Resolve becomes necessary.

Another reason I suspect this is a long standing bug in Resolve with nVidia GPU's. The memory management just doesn't work well enough.

Yeah I agree, it feels like the Nvidia GPU isn't solid in DR.
