version 16.8.2 and 17?

Hi,

After playing with Resolve 16 FREE for a month I decided to purchase an activation key for Studio 16 in November. The other day I opened up Resolve for the first time in at least a month and was prompted to re-enter my activation key then was prompted to download the 16.8.2 Update. Now my databases are offline and I can't find most of my projects.

Should I: a) uninstall and re-install 16.8.2 or b) download Studio 17?

I'm not clear on why there is an update for 16 and a new version 17 at the same time, not sure if my 16 activation key will work with 17, not sure if my database issue is related.

Can anybody clear this up for me? I wasn't able to find what I needed with a quick search.

Many Thanks!
Drew

Updating to 16.2.8 shouldn't affect the database at all. That it did is troublesome.

You backed up the database before updating?

17 is currently in beta. As is 16.3. Version 16.2.8 is the current Stable version as of this writing.

The license for 16 will work in 17 when you decide to upgrade.

Another thought: could it be that I upgraded to Big Sur?
I did not backup my databases unfortunately!

BMD site and got activation key from Core Microsystems.
I don't think I can figure out what original version it was.
I have not installed 17 yet.
I'm on a MacBook Pro 2019, OS Big Sur 11.1

this info in the faqs might help you confirm you have projects still

What is the database?
DaVinci Resolve uses 2 types of database to store your projects.

A disk database is a file structure that contains every project and your configuration meant for single user workflows. DaVinci Resolve creates the disk database at the default location automatically the first time you run the software.

The default disk database created using Resolve 16 beta or after will be present in the user application support directory. This corresponds to:
Mac OS: /Users/<your user name>/Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve/Resolve Disk Database
