R5 Canon Raw bug

PostSun Jan 17, 2021 7:56 pm

Resolve 17 beta 6 (build 18) Studio

If you set Camera Raw to "Full res - Canon" all works as expected.

If you set it to "Full res - Resolve" when playing back the grade is massively different than when the video is paused. When playing is like 2 stop brighter. Both on Color and Edit page. Basically as soon as you hit space to play, the image changes.

If you set it to "Half res" then the image stay the same in play or paused but is 2 stop brighter compared to the "Full res - Canon". Also in "Half res" there is a strange darker circle in the middle of the frame like it would be a pointer around 20 pixels diameter semi transparent if you change to "Full res" it goes away.

It seems that when in Full res Resolve when you hit play it switches to "Half res" as the 20 pixel wired circle in the middle it is appearing while playing.

Last but not least with 8 GB Vram (Nvidia 2070) on a 4k DCI timeline you get random the GPU failed to perform image processing because of an error Error Code: -5. You restart Resolve it works for a bit until the next error message. 2 nodes, first canon lut, second only gain and lift so super simple.

Some additional info, all the above was with OpenCL. Switching to CUDA things improve but the image brightness change bug is still there:
- the wired 20px semitransparent circle is gone in CUDA
- GPU Error -5 seems also gone. I need to more test.

But in "Full res - Resolve" the difference when paused and playback is still there but more subtle. like 1/3 of a stop and colors change a bit too. You can clearly see when you pause that the scopes a few ms after the pause change as the image too. In "Full res Canon" this does not happen. In "Half res" the image stays consistent but is brighter of 1/3 of a stop also colors change compared to Canon. Bottom line in CUDA the problem is still there but is more subtle.

Hi Ronnie,

Can you please send us a project archive (.dra) which includes a sample media file which can show this issue?

There we go:

media file: https://1drv.ms/u/s!Ar2RG8cz8ZoShIU7uwZ ... A?e=C2fmCX
drp: https://1drv.ms/u/s!Ar2RG8cz8ZoShIU6l-o ... A?e=MP0ing

Simply go to color page , camera raw tab change from full resolve to half and watch the image change also very visible on the waveform.

Also in full resolve hit space to paly and stop and you will see the image changing.

I did boost the color to show the effect more but it does on all my Canon R5 raw clips. Tested on beta 9 same issue.

I tried testing, but my system just isn't up to snuff.

Sorry.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Yes, I can confirm that. While my system doesn't play it smoothly, the difference when switching is obvious in the scope.
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.

Thanks Uli for trying it out!
