First few seconds showing media offline

PostSun Jan 17, 2021 9:13 pm

So I am editing video recorded from OBS and every once in a while when I load a video clip the preview comes up as Media Offline. I can load it to the timeline and only the first few seconds are showing the video as media offline and messes up the sound until it gets past the few maybe 10 seconds then everything is normal. If I try and render the file is unplayable unless I cut the media offline section and disable it. Now out of the last 13 videos I recorded, this is the only one that is having this problem. And it happens randomly even when I haven't changed any of what I do.

I always recommend hardware recorders for screen capture you intend to edit. They typically offer editing friendly options like DNx and ProRes, whereas software normally doesn't.

I'm using OBS to record gameplay along with audio and overlays. I'm not sure it would be possible to output OBS to that device

Yes, it would.

But first check if audio is set to 48, not 44.1 kHz in OBS. If it was, change and try again.
Unfortunately, OBS is sometimes recording VFR even if set to CFR, with gameplay in particular.
Can you check the offending clip with MediaInfo?
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.

You wouldn't do it that way. You send the HDMI out of your computer to the device for recording, then loop out of that to your monitor for viewing.
