The following attached or linked images (duplicates), better describes what it is I'm trying to achieve.

I don't want any part of the main video (Video 1) to be visible, when this particular image is placed onto 'Video 2'. I'd like to be able to switch back and forth with this, with various images.

1. Scale the image to fill the screen.

2. Add the image to V1.

3. Put a black clip on V2 and the image on V3.

Editor's choice, really.

All that said, this kind of thing is very basic. Have you completed any training for Resolve yet?

I did go ahead and create a new 'track' called v3 and went ahead and placed a black image matching the main video's resolution in v2.



It's just that when the image is not 'wide enough' Resolve automatically places black bars to the side. To remove those black bars, I have to use the 'zoom tool' under transform, and change it's x value from 1.0 to 0.999, which seems contradictory & made the improvisation I resorted too seeming like a 'last resort'.

Yeah, that's a bit confusing.

The 'black' you're seeing when the image isn't wide enough is actually a bug in version 16, which can be worked around as you saw, by adjusting the image slightly in the Inspector.

In a correctly functioning NLE, you should always see whatever is underneath when the image doesn't fill the raster. And in version 17, that is how things work.

Thank you for that insight on the program's bug.

Coincidentally I came across the crop tool on the right hand side, which allows for a much more ideal way, IMO, in implementing the black bar.

I was wondering how I may inform Resolve, to, for example, implement said "crop" from 15 second mark to 20 second mark, or ideally how ever long the imported image on the V2 or V3 'track' is set for?

I'm aware of nodes in the 'color' tab, adjacent to the 'media' and 'edit' tab at the bottom, used in conjunction to implement blur/censorship effects.

Edit: I'm aware a possible 'improvisation' is to use the 'blade edit tool' to split the video into 3 parts and I guess from there select the middle video and perform the 'crop' on there.

To unblade / undo-blade, one select the points where there is a cut, generating a green dash line, and press the back space key.

I watched the following video on keyframe.



After setting the keyframes, I had to then use the arrow keys on the keyboard to move forward or backward by a frame, and get rid of the crops before and after the 2 key frames, and blue line at the bottom visualized this.
