Specs Question! Should I upgrade?

PostMon Jan 18, 2021 2:59 pm

Hey everyone! So I love using Davinci Resolve for the most part, but sometimes it'll wig out on me. Most recently, it kept crashing upon opening the program. A quick restart remedied the problem, but I wanted to drop my computer specifications & see what everyone though. I'm willing to throw a couple hundred into upgrading. Typically I'm working off 4k footage from the BMPCC4K;however I'm editing a job that I shot in 1080.

SPECS:

CPU - AMD Ryzen 2600 Six-Core Processor

Memory - 16GB

GPU - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB

Let me know what you dudes think!

Come back when you can add another zero. ;)
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Your crashes may have nothing to do with system specs. Look for others causes..... And see BMD guidelines for reporting these issues, in the posts above.

OK, so probably my first choice here would be a new 11th Gen Intel CPU once they arrive. My second choice would be a 3000 series RTX card from nVidia once they're available.

What about an RTX 3080 paired with a Ryzen 5 3600?

Wouldn't be my choice.

I hear you, but I'm not looking for the best of the best. Just a REALISTIC upgrade from the specs I provided above. I find it hard to believe I can't get a solid improvement by throwing a grand into this, ya know?

Given 10th Gen pricing, I'm guessing you could do a 3080 and an 11th gen Intel for a G.
