camera color balancing when using Sync Bin

PostTue Jan 19, 2021 6:22 am

I have my new Speed Editor and am encouraged to work with the Cut Tab now.

All my work is three camera multicam and I have got comfortable with the Edit Tab - but I can see the advantages of using Cut and the Speed Editor.

I like to match my three cameras before I start editing as I always start with a colour chart and clapper board. Using Multicam timelines in the Edit Tab I can move to the Colour Tab and match the full output from the three cameras. When I then start to edit I am working with three matched files.

Is there a way I can match my three sources as I start to build my Sync Bin? I can think of a way of using the Color Tab once I had finished my Cut Page editing - but that seems time consuming and error prone as I would have to apply a correction to each short clip.

That's my approach. Go through the Pages in sequence.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Thank you Jim.

So I work with three cameras. Three sources to correct and match.

And I do a multicam produced clip lasting ten minutes with about a hundred seperate clips.

And I take your advice and go through copying a modification to each one - with the danger of getting some of them wrong.

It does seem a risky and time consuming method.

Has anyone got a better idea than Jim?

Ooh, that is the hard way.

Do you're cutting first, then color the original clips in the Multicam. (Right click on a Multicam segment>Open in Timeline.)

"Ooh, that is the hard way."

Not sure what you mean.

But to get to the problem are you saying that I build my sequence in the Cut Tab and then move to the Edit Tab and create a multicam timeline of my three master clips.

I then call up that new timeline in the Colour Tab and balance the three clips.

Yes?

I did not realise that the corrections would carry over into the clips in the Cut Tab because I thought that sort of correction was/is timeline sensitive.

In case you do not have time to revisit this thread soon I will do a test tomorrow.

I'm saying if you want to do Multicam, do a Multicam in the Edit page. Don't use Cut.

Thank you Jim,

Could you find the time to read my opening question. It will explain that I don't want to use Multicam.

If you haven't the time then fine.

I will wait for someone who has.

I have done a test.

I have taken one of my three camera clips and put it into a timeline and turned it into black and white.

As I expected it shows B&W in the timeline but the clip in the Sync Bin is still coloured.

My opening post explained I want to work in the Cut Tab, with my Speed Editor and using the newly improved Sync Bin.

Jim Simon tells me to use the Edit Tab rather than offering me a solution of a way of working in the Cut Tab.

Can someone else help me please?
