Some problems(?) with Resolve 17

PostTue Jan 19, 2021 7:12 am

Hello.

First of all, let me say that I am a beginner! I started using Davinci Resolve 17 and I see that during editing the video playback-preview from the media pool and from the timeline, plays with big glitches-sticking and not smoothly, so editing the videos is not so easy.

Is it my computer issue? My computer is WINDOWS 10 INTEL CORE I5-9300H, RAM 8 GB, nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 3GB.

If I install Resolve 16 will it be better?

Also in some cases, I can not put transitions between two clips. In other cases I can. I have noticed it mainly in clips that I have cut.

Thanks in advance

As a new user, your first course of action should be to complete some Resolve training. The Beginner's Guide and Advanced Editing are an excellent groundwork to get you moving smoothly. ;)

My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Your GTX 1060 with only 3GB of vram, and only 8GB of system ram will be limiting factors especially if your video clips are h264 (mp4 or AVCHD for instance).

You can't just butt two clips up together and apply a transition. Transitions between clips require an overlap of video at least as much as the length of the transition. These overlapping parts are called "handles".

Download the version 16 manual from the Support page of the BMD website and go to pages 724 to 737. It explains about using transitions.
