Color correction nodes cause flickering

Hi,

After applying color correction nodes to entire clips, some of the clips flash or flicker as they play. Watched one by one, they look like the correction disappears on some of the frames of a clip in the timeline. When playing the edit page timeline or in full screen it is noticeable how a few frames have no correction. Back to the color page, when the frames advance as the clip plays, the waveform pulses, expanding and contracting! Affected frames look milky in contrast with contiguos frames. The result is flickering series, they can be several alternate frames or just a frame here or there.

The first I encountered I re-made all the nodes from scratch and it cured the problem there. But, then, the same problem appears on other clips.

Most clips have 3 nodes applied: one for correcting lift and gain, another for haze and a third to compensate temperature.

(I tried uploading a short clip showing but the forum doesn't accept .mp4 or .mov files!)

Has anyone find the same problem?

You'd have to post a video example to YouTube, Vimeo, etc.

For the second node, are you meaning the DeHaze effect? If so, does the issue persist without that?

On the video you see how when playing the waveform shakes, expanding and contracting. I have no idea why this is happening. It happens randomly on some clips. It is the main color correction that goes bad, where I corrected the gain and lift only.

Each clip needs to be re-do for the effect to go away. But then, it appears in others! Randomly.

Any suggestions?

I was able to reproduce the flicker. If I turn off all the nodes and back on, then the blinking will stop.

This problem is very similar to mine. If I use an OFX plugin on one of the nodes, the noise reduction will change the colors.

There may be some big change around the handling of OFX.

Someone Blackmagic please address this kind of problem, these 16 worked well.

Does it only occur when OFX are used?

Today updated to Beta 7 and unfortunately the problem still exist.

And also noticed the exact same flickering when speed change applied with ramping.

I feel it is caused by some kind of optimalization that the programmers made, and in some situation this happens.

The only way I found to get rid of the problem was to delete the first node and re do it again. At the beginning it showed in two clips. I worked on these to correct, then it appeared on others. It seemed to me randomly. There’s never anything random in a computer butI couldn’t find either telling differences or similarities between the affected clips.

Same issue here. I own free version and applied a very simple color correction node to a short 3sec clip and it flickers tones of colors rapidly in the clip. When I play it back multiple times, the flickering is in different spots. Sometimes I get 1-3 flickers or 3-many each time I play it.

I wonder if BM DR developers takes notice of these problems?

This is where bugs get reported, and many have been fixed so far in the beta cycle, so yes...they pay attention.

I'm still having this issue on 17.1.1. In my case, it only happens when I make a contrast adjustment. Contrast set to 1.00 = no flickering. Contrast set to 1.1 = flickering.

I have had the same problem, but only on clips that are slowed down and use frame-blending such as optical flow.

I'm running Resolve 17.4.2

Ironically, i'm having a similar issue when applying the deflicker effect to my "group Post Clip" to clear up a very slight rolling shutter from LED lights. About a second into each clip, the contrast decreases, then increases for the first second of the next clip, making it look like the screen flashes.

I dont think that you can use a deflicker in a post node: at the cut point inevitably the machine should try to fix the luminance difference between the two shots that are indeed different… (or am i mistaken…?)

I’ve seen this kind of thing before.
In my case it was with clips that had a speed change with an Optical Flow process and with Enhance Better mode.

I usually render out the clip without color to bake the motion then reapply the grade.
